We headed out on a RI Striped Bass charter Saturday June 6, 2020 from Point Judith. The charter was booked by Lauren, for her husband, who took out three of his buddies.
It was another extremely foggy morning heading out, and it remained foggy most of the fishing trip. We headed out to the North Rip off of Block Island to fish for stripers.
The Tackle
We used our typical tackle, frames with tubes, and rigs with steel line. We use the steel line to get the frames down to deeper water while trolling. In this case we were looking to get to about 30 feet of water with the umbrella rigs.
When The Action Started
It was about 10 minutes of trolling when we hooked into our first striper. The water was a bit rough, therefore, bringing the fish in was a bit of a challenge. After landing the first striped bass we were hooking up about every 10 minutes. We were bringing in 2 at a time and 3 at a time on the frames with tubes.
Maintained Focus
There are times when we occasionally switch our focus and will look for sea bass, scup, flounder, or some other type of fish when the striper fishing slows on a fishing charter. This was one of those charters where the action was non-stop from beginning to end. No need to switch up this charter.
A Successful Striped Bass Charter
At the end of the trip our anglers were a bit tired. They even stated their arms were hurting. We do not doubt it, because we ended up hooking up with 39 striped bass from between 27 and 29 inches in length!
The team had such a great time they all took Aces Wild business cards and stated they would be coming back later in the season.
The Striped Bass Migration
This charter was a great sign that the striped bass are definitely making there way up the coast. Now that the schoolies and smaller bass are here, the big bass will be making their way next.
Catching Stripers is always a great time. It makes saltwater fishing a true anglers sport. Each season we watch the striper migration. Monitor water temperature. And not just for stripers, however, but for other specials. Then when the fishing starts spotting the stripers on the fish finder is a treat. Sitting on the bottom waiting for some bait fish.
